Imperial Volute snail shells are large and shiny, usually growing between 3 to 10 inches long. These long, spindle-shaped shells can range from light to heavy and have a mostly whitish base color. The shell features a tall, pointed top with deep grooves, decorated with strong red-brown vertical lines and thin horizontal circles. The oval-shaped opening is white on the inside, and its outer edge is lined with many small, black, tooth-like bumps. Finally, the snail has a small, thick, dark brown trapdoor to close its shell.
