Our kudu skull with horns and kudu skull plate with horns are from the African Greater kudu, Tragelaphus strepsicerus. They will have large spiral shaped horns from 40 inches to 55 inches, measured around the curl of the horn. The Adult Male Greater Kudu's horns are spiral shaped and impressive with two and a half twists. If they were straightened, they would reach an average length of 47 inches. The record is 73 inches. The kudu's horns do not begin to grow until the bull is between 6 and 12 months. They twist once around the age of 2 and do not reach the full 2-1/2 curls until the age of 6. Occasionally you will see one with 3 curl. They are prized in Africa for use as musical instruments, honey containers and symbolic ritual objects. All our kudu skulls and horns were imported from South Africa and cleared for legal entry into the US.
