Wholesale Prairie Dog Skulls for sale measuring between 2 and 2-1/2 inches.  Each skull has been cleaned and whitened.  These are 100% Real - NOT Replicas.  They will have natural imperfections from living in the wild and aging.   Perfect for use in skull decor, skull painting and carving. 

The Black-tailed prairie dog is a social burrowing rodent belonging to the squirrel family (Sciuridae), found across the Great Plains of North America.
Physical Description and Size
  • Weight: Adults weigh between 2 and 3 pounds.
  • Length: They measure 14 to 17 inches long.
  • Appearance: They have tan fur with lighter buff-white bellies and distinct black tips on their tails. Unlike some other species, they do not truly hibernate, though they lower their metabolism during cold winter nights.  
  • Colonies: They live in large, highly organized underground networks called "towns".  
  • Coteries: Social groups within towns are called coteries, usually consisting of one adult male, three or four adult females, and their young.
  • Communication: Sentinels stand guard and give a bark-like alarm call when predators are near, warning the colony to dive back into their burrows.  
  • Keystone Species: Their grazing and digging aerate soil and maintain short vegetation, creating habitats that support many other prairie species.

  • Diet: Primarily vegetarian, eating grasses, green vegetation, seeds, stems, and occasional insects.
  • Lifespan: They typically live 3 to 5 years as surviving adults in the wild, or up to 8 years under ideal conditions.
  • Predators: Natural predators include coyotes, bobcats, badgers, ferrets, golden eagles, hawks, and foxes.
