 Eastern Pacific Giant Conch Shells for Sale Wholesale or buy individual ones in sizes from 7 to 8 inches in length.  These shells were imported from Mexico.  Titanostrombus galeatus, or strombus galeatus, commonly known as the Eastern Pacific giant conch,  is a species of large sea snail in the family Strombidae, the true conchs and their allies.  It is an eastern Pacific species that can be found from the Gulf of California to Peru.  These shells were used as wind instruments by the ChavAn, an ancient civilization from the northern Andean highlands of Peru. They are still used for this purpose in the Andes, where they are known as pututu.  The shell of Titanostrombus galeatus is large, maximum size 8.97 inches and are commonly 5.46 inches.  It is very thick and heavy and has an oblong outline, with a short pointed spire that lacks spines and nodules and is often eroded.  Titanostrombus galeatus dwells on rocky, sandy bottoms near mangrove areas. It lives in depths from thee low tidemark to 15 m, but records go as deep as 30 m.
